Connecting filmmakers with local experts to simplify permitting and unlock our diverse filming locations
Film Placer Tahoe recently partnered with the Arts Council of Placer County to host a dynamic Spark Session, “Lights, Camera, Permits!”—a free virtual workshop designed to give filmmakers a clear, practical pathway to bringing their projects to life in Northern California.
In case you missed it (ICYMI), the session brought together regional film permitting experts from across Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado and Nevada counties, offering attendees a rare opportunity to hear directly from the agencies that help make filming possible. From understanding local requirements to navigating timelines and processes, the workshop focused on demystifying permitting and empowering creatives with the knowledge they need to move forward with confidence. As highlighted throughout the session, the goal was simple: make filming more accessible, transparent, and achievable for both emerging and experienced filmmakers.
Beyond logistics, the conversation emphasized the value of collaboration. By connecting filmmakers with local jurisdictions and resources, the Spark Session reinforced the region’s commitment to supporting a thriving creative economy. The Arts Council of Placer County, which has long served as a hub for arts advocacy, resources and partnerships, continues to play a key role in fostering these connections and strengthening opportunities for artists across disciplines.
For Film Placer Tahoe, the workshop reflects an ongoing effort to position Placer County and the greater Tahoe region as film-friendly destinations. With diverse landscapes, supportive local agencies and a growing network of creative professionals, the region offers a compelling backdrop for storytelling of all kinds.
Events like this Spark Session are just the beginning. By breaking down barriers and opening lines of communication, Film Placer Tahoe and its partners are helping ensure that the next great story can start right here.
