Join the Arts Council of Placer County for a virtual Spark Session to learn how to navigate film permitting across the region

Filmmakers looking to bring their next project to Northern California have an exciting opportunity to learn directly from the experts who help make productions possible across the region.
The Arts Council of Placer County is hosting an upcoming Spark Session titled “Lights, Camera, Permits! A Film Permitting Workshop,” designed to give creatives a clear and practical understanding of how to film locally.
This free virtual workshop will take place on Monday, April 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. via Zoom, and is open to filmmakers, producers, students and anyone interested in the ins and outs of film production in Northern California.
“One of the biggest hurdles for any production can be navigating the permitting process,” said Film Placer Tahoe Liaison Juli Johnston. “This session brings together film permitting representatives from Placer County, Sacramento County, El Dorado County, and Nevada County, offering guests a unique chance to hear directly from the jurisdictions that support filming throughout the Sierra region and beyond.”
Participants will gain insight into local requirements, timelines, and best practices for securing permits efficiently.
Whether you are planning a commercial shoot, an independent film, or a student project, understanding these processes can save valuable time and help ensure a smooth production.
From the alpine beauty of North Lake Tahoe to the historic charm of the Foothills and Gold Country, all the way down to the urban versatility of the Sacramento valley, Northern California offers a wide range of film-friendly locations.
Workshops like this highlight the collaborative effort among counties to support the creative industry and make filming more accessible.
Film Placer Tahoe continues to work closely with regional partners to promote these opportunities and connect filmmakers with the resources they need. From local crews to on-set resources, these partnerships make a big impact.
Whether you are actively developing a project or simply exploring what it takes to film in the region, this workshop offers valuable guidance to help bring your vision to life.
